Cell Phone Collection
Mutual Ground Inc. announces the expansion of a community-wide campaign to
collect used, unwanted cell phones. Proceeds from this project will
be used for ongoing support of Mutual Ground’s services for victims of
domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as prevention efforts
including the provision of educational programs throughout the community.
“Donating used, unwanted cell phones allows community members to contribute
to an important cause without reaching into their wallets,” stated the
Executive Director of Mutual Ground Inc. “There are thousands of used cell
phones sitting idly in our homes and businesses; this program offers a
simple and convenient way to recycle those phones while supporting our
community’s response to domestic violence.” The donated phones will either
be programmed to dial ‘911’ and given to domestic violence victims for use
in emergencies; or recycled through an environmentally sound (EPA compliant)
program to provide direct financial support for Mutual Ground.
Shelter Alliance currently works with over 500 domestic violence programs in
47 states and expects to contribute over $500,000 to domestic violence
programs nationwide, entirely funded through its cell phone collection
program. Mutual Ground Inc. has partnered with Shelter Alliance (www.shelteralliance.net),
a Miramar, Florida
firm that specializes in the logistics and underwriting of fundraising
programs through the collection, resale, and responsible recycling of used
cellular phones.
Cell phone collection “drop boxes”
have been established throughout the community. Mutual Ground Inc. requests
that the public bring their used, unwanted cell phones to these locations
during working hours. The locations include:
 |
Office of State Representative Linda Chapa LaVia, North Island
Center, 8 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora
|
 |
Office of State
Representative Tom Cross, 530 W. Lockport St. Suite 204, Plainfield
|
 |
Office of State
Representative Patricia Reid Lindner, 32 S. Main St. Suite A, Sugar Grove
|
Mutual Ground Inc. is also
soliciting local businesses to initiate “Good Corporate Neighbor” collection
campaigns with its employees, customers and vendors. Businesses may contact
Mutual Ground for details on participation.
